Many women are taking a break from their careers in order to homeschool. Today on Home School Heartbeat, Mike Smith shows why more families are choosing this path.

The major driving force in a free economy is the profit motive. Profits provide the incentive to work and invest. Families can be caught up with a materialistic outlook when the pursuit of money and a higher standard of living become paramount objectives.


Many people, in particular women, are discovering that pursuing careers comes at a price. That price is paid by the family.


Homeschooling requires a sacrifice and a refocus upon quality of life and the needs of the children. This choice is being made by increasing numbers of parents who are seeking alternatives. The stresses of modern life take their toll. Many women are realizing that a paycheck and the extra things which can be bought are no substitute for a close, loving family. The growth of homeschooling has been accelerating as more families consider their circumstances and decide how to provide the best environment for raising their children.


Homeschooling is a method of education and a pattern of family life which enhances quality of life, not just standard of living. For many new homeschoolers, family and community has won out against materialism. These bonds are ties which last forever.
