Homeschoolers have always needed legal protection. Mike Smith talks about the important role of Home School Legal Defense Association in the life of homeschoolers on today's Home School Heartbeat.

This week we've been talking about getting started with homeschooling. It's a big decision, but one that is full of immense rewards for children and parents even though there are sacrifices to be made.


Unfortunately, homeschoolers are not always viewed favorably by government agencies. From school districts that believe they should be in charge of education to social workers who look intently at homeschoolers just because they are homeschooling to state and federal legislatures who often attempt to regulate homeschoolers, government agencies can be a tremendous burden to innocent homeschool families.


Home School Legal Defense Association is the homeschooler's first line of defense from aggressive state actions which can disrupt normal family life. Being able to reach a lawyer immediately if a truant officer or a social worker knocks on your door can make all the difference when dealing with the state.


HSLDA has helped tens of thousands of homeschool families in its 21-year history and we plan to help thousands more in the future. Every homeschooling family should consider the benefits of joining HSLDA.
