What do you need to successfully homeschool? Mike Smith talks about taking stock of your resources on today's Home School Heartbeat. Mike Smith: One of the first things is to take stock of your resources. What skills do you and your family possess? Most parents are confident that they can teach their own children at least until the 6th grade. But what other resources do you possess? Are you able to teach a particular subject through high school? Do you have other practical skills which could be applied outside the home? You will also need to take a look at your finances. Most homeschoolers survive on one income and some families may find the adjustment difficult. Deciding where to alter your lifestyle before you embark on homeschooling will hopefully give you a clear expectation of the changes ahead. Most families discover that they're able to homeschool, but taking stock of your resources and planning ahead are two of the keys to getting started on the path of successful homeschooling. Listeners, join us next time as we continue our discussion of getting started with homeschooling. And until then, I'm Mike Smith. |
