It's a cliché, but establishing goals is a necessary first step in any significant undertaking. Homeschooling is no exception.


If you're considering homeschooling you will most likely have already thought about some of the issues surrounding this decision. But establishing goals—thinking about the why of homeschooling—should be first on your list.


Are you seeking to provide a religiously based education so that your child can grow in faith and serve God? Or do you simply see homeschooling as a vehicle to provide a better academic education than the public school? People have different reasons for homeschooling, but you should have the end result in mind before you decide to commit your life to this method of education. Homeschooling is indeed a lifestyle choice. It will be easier to manage the inevitable ups and downs if the final goal has been established and agreed upon.


Know what you're working for. Most parents desire their children to be mature, responsible, productive citizens. Studies show that homeschooling is the best route to achieve this goal. Investigating and establishing the methods to reach your goal will go a long way in getting your homeschool started on the right track.
