More parents are choosing to homeschool their gifted children. Today on Home School Heartbeat, Mike Smith explains why parents are selecting this option.

    Mike Smith:
More and more gifted students are finding their way into homeschooling. Why is this the case?

By its very structure, a public school cannot offer an in-depth individualized education. Gifted children are capable of so much more than the typical classroom can offer.

Homeschooling is the natural choice for the parents of a gifted child because there is no better method of education for encouraging a child to explore different subject areas in great depth. An abundance of academic materials awaits the gifted child who's willing to dive in and fully explore the subjects they are most interested in. Some homeschooling veterans have called this "delight-directed education."

The world needs these gifted people who are able to study a subject and develop specialized careers in an area they love. We all benefit when gifted people are able to expand their gifts into creation. Gifted children may indeed make breakthroughs and present their own gift to the world.

Please join us next time as we continue to discuss this very important area of gifted and talented children. And until then, I'm Mike Smith.
