The public school shortchange

How does public school shortchange the gifted child? Mike Smith answers this question on today's Home School Heartbeat.

    Mike Smith:
Mass production in the 20th century was a great achievement. Goods were made in a uniform and cheap manner and increased almost everyone's standard of living. Unfortunately, when this model is applied to public school we end up with very different results. The standards are consistently low and continuing to decline every year.

In addition, the federal No Child Left Behind Act encourages school districts to focus on children who are struggling. If schools can bring poor students up to a minimum standard, they avoid a failing grade and the penalties that follow as a result of the federal No Child Left Behind Act.

The gifted child is left high and dry in this system. Most gifted children are simply bored and frustrated in school. For many, it's simply a waste of time and a waste of life.

There is an answer for the parents of gifted children, and this answer is in homeschooling. Listeners, join us next time as we continue our discussion on this very important topic, the gifted child. And until then, I'm Mike Smith.
