Does the quality of homeschool curriculum reach the standards found in public school? Mike Smith explores this question on today's Home School Heartbeat. Mike Smith: It's certainly true that access to organized curriculum was lacking 20 years ago, since the public schools dominated the education scene and the reemergence of homeschooling was in its infancy. Also, many private textbook publishers refused to sell to homeschoolers. But the homeschool pioneers of the late '70s and early '80s succeeded, and laid the foundation for the homeschool movement we see today. Some critics still maintain that homeschool materials cannot be as good as the public school. But they're dead wrong. Homeschool curricula are some of the best available today. Many public school materials suffer from being uniform and uninteresting because the school boards which purchase textbooks need to avoid controversy. Homeschool materials can freely explore biblical themes and present literature and history in an undistorted way. This makes for exciting and diverse materials which are improving all the time. Please join us next time when we'll explore the role of freedom and the free market as it relates to homeschooling curriculum. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
