How do you know if you really want a career in law? Michael Farris and his guest discuss a great way to get hands-on experience in the field of law, today on Home School Heartbeat.
Mike Farris:
Galen, you've had some pretty impressive internships in your years at Patrick Henry College. Tell us about them.
Galen Thorp:
Patrick Henry College puts a lot of effort into placing students in internships and accommodating their schedules to make them happen, and I've certainly been privileged to be a part of that. My first internship was with Heritage Foundation working in the state relations department, and I learned a lot about the conservative movement and moving legislation forward. My second internship was at Kirkland & Ellis working in Judge Kenneth Starr's office doing office administration, but learning a lot about the corporate law firm and gaining a lot of experience there. The greatest privilege of my undergraduate time was working in the White House Counsel's office, which handles everything from judicial nominations to ethics issues and various legal factors facing the administration. There, working with high-caliber attorneys, doing legal research for them and justit was an incredible opportunity to learn and expand my consideration of legal issues and preparation for law school.
Mike:
Galen, it's been a privilege to work with you at PHC; you were also a personal intern to me at times, and I'm excited to see where God leads you next. I'm Mike Farris.
