Diversity in education
Volume 54, Program 9

Different homeschoolers have different experiences and different educations. Is this a good thing? Join Mike Smith on today's Home School Heartbeat as he talks about diversity in education.

    Mike Smith:
This week we've been talking about the genius of home education: the individualized instruction plan.

A plan tailored to the child, under the direction of the parents, will produce different results for different children.

By contrast, the public school is designed to impart a similar body of knowledge to all students regardless of their individual academic abilities or interests. Choice is limited to blocks of lessons within a subject.

Homeschoolers enjoy a diversity of education since they are free to explore their own path. Several viewpoints are taught in homeschools across the country.

Many people decided to homeschool because the public school can no longer provide a diverse education. Rather, public education has become narrow with only the secular viewpoint taught across all subject matter.

A homeschool education will be a stronger education because all views can be taught and the homeschooler will have access to all the facts.

Listeners, please join us next time as we continue our discussion on the individualized instruction plan. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
