Mass education versus individuals

Today on Home School Heartbeat . . . an individual plan has been called the genius of home education. Join Mike Smith as he discusses why children respond to individualized education.

    Mike Smith:
We all know that children have unique personalities. However, a few critics of home education seem to believe that mass education is compatible with individuals. But that is simply not true.

Of course, many children succeed when they leave public school, but many more would have greatly benefited from an individual education plan.

Most parents and teachers know that a child will not learn if the child is not engaged with the subject material. The desire to learn has to be present if any education plan is to succeed. It's the homeschool environment which offers the best opportunity for an undistracted exploration of academic materials.

Once a child is able to discover their areas of interest, then the genius of homeschooling really kicks in, because now the child can pursue courses at his or her own pace.

There's no need for one child to be held back because the whole class isn't ready to move on to the next topic. This breeds frustration in a child who wants to learn more.

Children thrive when they are engaged. The best way to be engaged is through individual education, and that means home education.

And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
