What's the future for independent homeschool sports leagues? For an answer, join Mike Smith and his guest as they talk about this question on today's Home School Heartbeat.

Mike Smith:
We've been talking this week with Chris Davis, founder of the Home School Sports Network. Chris, how do you see the future of homeschool sports?


Chris Davis:
Homeschool sports are robust and mature with opportunities that were just a dream 10 years ago. Today I think we are beginning to see the first wave of homeschool athletes that are now young adults. And today's homeschool teams are also goal-driven. The national champions set their sights on repeating their title while there's, you know, other teams, they want to get to the nationals. And others just want to improve on their performance from the year before. Last year's sports programs that maybe—this year they're going to get uniforms for the first time. So that's one of their goals. And others are really ready to expand their play schedule by scheduling with teams that they haven't played before. And while all this is happening, there's new sports programs and tournaments popping up just about everywhere. And finally, for fun, HSPN has decided to rank teams nationally from around the country. It's starting to catch on; it's kind of fun, and I'm hearing from coaches almost daily now.


Mike:
Are you going to have a top 10 or a top 20?


Chris:
We have a top 15 for right now, for the fun—we don't have that many yet, but it's starting to fill out. It's fun; it's just for fun, but it's been a real neat experience.
