Today on Home School Heartbeat, Chris Davis, founder of the Home School Sports Network, talks about the benefits to children of participating in sports activities.
Mike Smith:
Chris, what are some of the major benefits you've seen from participation in sports by homeschoolers?
Chris Davis:
There are many benefits for the parents, the players, and the coaches. Speaking personally as a coach, it's just plain rewarding. It's been a great experience. My daughter graduates this year and I have homeschooled her with my wife since day one, and I have been her coach since she first was able to kick a soccer ball 11 years ago. And I also like the accountability factor that has helped my Christian life. It's awesome to see God working in the lives of our players and the amount of love and respect that they give back in return. For some parents, having athletics available helped them get through the tough periods of homeschooling, and for more families, having homeschool sports made their decision to continue homeschooling much easier. In addition, I'd say homeschool sports has created strong friendships with the mothers and the fathers that I've been around.
And you know, having been in coaching for so long, I am pleased to report that the homeschool graduates that I have coached are very much prepared for life after school; many of them are now parents or college graduates, and they come back to our alumni game with an enthusiasm that I haven't seen in quite a while.
Mike:
Well, that's a great report, Chris, and thank you for being with us again today. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
