Can homeschooling succeed in renewing the culture? Join Mike Smith and his guest as they talk about this issue on today's Home School Heartbeat.
Mike Smith:
We've been talking this week with David Kupelian, vice president and managing editor for World Net Daily. David, you've argued that homeschooling is the only viable way to transform the culture. Why do you think homeschooling will succeed in this effort?
David Kupelian:
Well, Mike, I really believe homeschooling is the single most important and promising avenue for a true rebirth of what I'll call "American Judeo-Christian culture." Right now, in thousands of families, children are being raised with godly insight, they're being protected from the insanity of the popular culture, until they're big enough and strong enough in their convictions to go out in the world and make their mark. That is exactly how the real America is now being reborn. Now, you know, listeners might ask, "Great, but how does that serve to transform the entire culture?" Well, we've got to remember that a subculture can and often does become the dominant culture. For instance, today's homosexual culture, glorified in the popular media and Hollywood, was not too long ago just a kind of a miserable and almost invisible subculture. In the same way, a rebirth of a truly American, Judeo-Christian, values-based culture must necessarily start off as a subculture. And there's really no better place to start it than in your family.
Mike:
Well, thank you, David. That's a real challenge for all of us, and very encouraging. Until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
