Can public schools lead the way in protecting children from the negative media messages of corporations? For an answer to that question, please join Mike Smith and his guest David Kupelian for today's Home School Heartbeat.
Mike Smith:
My guest this week is David Kupelian, managing editor for World Net Daily. David, are public schools the way to combat the negative moral influences on children?
David Kupelian:
No, Mike, unfortunately, I would say rather that schools—public schools—are basically the incubators of today's destructive youth culture. You know, children become like what they are around. They become like their environment. So we have to ask ourselves, what is the environment in today's government school system? Look at it: body piercing, gangster rap music and clothing, and most troublesome, a widespread culture of sexual experimentation—even down into the middle school years. And this, of course, is all fueled by powerful peer pressure.
This stuff is permeating our schools—just like the feelings of anger and hopelessness and meaninglessness that always underlies such self-destructive behavior. You know, schools like to say that they are "values-neutral," but as we know, that always ends up meaning anti-Judeo-Christian values. If you're not teaching and exemplifying godly standards and values, you are by default pushing kids toward the opposite.
Mike:
Well, thank you, David. Listeners, join us next time as we continue our discussion of homeschooling and the culture. And I'm Mike Smith.
