Supportive families really help when times are tough. But some homeschoolers often face hostile family members or even unsupportive spouses. Mike Smith tackles this important problem on today's Home School Heartbeat. Mike Smith: One of the toughest problems facing homeschool families is the presence of an unsupportive family member. These individuals can be a tremendous distraction. If your homeschool operates with the support of close family members, that is a true blessing. Thankfully, this is the norm. But unfortunately, many families experience just the opposite. In extreme cases, unsupportive family members tell false stories to authorities in order to try to get the homeschool family in trouble. The best response is to pray for God's protection and stand your ground in the face of opposition. It's also a good opportunity to teach our children to love their enemies. Confirmation that homeschooling was the correct and wise decision will result in academically and socially well adjusted children. We can't live our lives to please others to the detriment of our own family. Training your children in the face of opposition will certainly be a test of faith, but it's always worth it when you're following God's will. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith. Vickie Farris' book, A Mom Just Like You, addresses the big issues that homeschool moms face. For ordering information, visit us online at homeschoolheartbeat.com. Or call 866-338-8614.
