Everyone knows that homeschooling is hard work. It's tough to keep all those balls in the air at once. How can a homeschool mom maintain her energy level without burning out? Join Mike Smith on today's Home School Heartbeat as he presents some tried and tested tips which have served homeschool moms in the past. Mike Smith: In conversations I've had with non-homeschoolers, they have immediately recognized the incredible amount of work needed to homeschool. Sometimes there is even disbelief that one parent—typically the mom—can successfully complete all the work. This is also a mystery for many homeschool moms at times who regularly experience stress. Simply pushing through the tough times may indeed be good advice in some situations but pushing too hard results in burnout. A homeschool mom should avoid burnout at all costs because her effectiveness falls dramatically. How can moms avoid burnout? Recognize the early signs of tiredness. Force yourselves to take a break. Often we don't realize how hard we are working before we take a break. It's only then that the body catches up and reveals just how exhausted we really are. God provides needs but we must also cooperate by taking regular breaks. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith. Vickie Farris' book, A Mom Just Like You, addresses the big issues that homeschool moms face. For ordering information, visit us online at www.homeschoolheartbeat.com.
