Grassroots politics is familiar territory for most homeschoolers, but what about the next generation? Join Michael Farris and Ned Ryun as they talk about giving young people first-hand experience in the political process, today on Home School Heartbeat.
Mike Farris:
Ned, I know when I ran for lieutenant governor of Virginia I learned the importance of grassroots volunteers, and you've definitely learned that as well in working with your dad's campaigns for Congress. How does the program of Generation Joshua give the students who are involved real-life experience in these areas?
Ned Ryun:
Mike, we wanted to be able to give the members of Generation Joshua an avenue in which they could put the stewardship of their nation into action and make a difference now. The student action teams are going to be that opportunity. In the fall of 2002 we saw how effective those teams could be—six out of the seven races we were involved in were victories. And in many areas where those teams worked, voter turnout went up 15%. So this is going to help these young people see that they can make a difference today. The might not even be voting age, but they can make a difference today.
We think these young people will become tomorrow's leaders by electing today's leaders.
Mike:
Ned, I'm really confident that God's going to bless the efforts of Generation Joshua to help train the next generation to rise up and fight the giants that we face today, and be even more equipped to fight the giants that they'll face tomorrow. Ned, there's nothing like hands-on experience, and when they get out there in those campaigns and see how it's really done, I believe that a lot of these kids are going to be tomorrow's leaders. I'm Mike Farris.
