Mike Smith:
With us this week is Mary Schofield, board member of Christian Home Educators Association of California. Thanks for joining us, Mary.
Mary Schofield:
Thank you for having me, Mike.
Mike:
Mary, you've written a book, The High School Handbook. Why did you write this book?
Mary:
Well, the main goal, Mike, in writing this book was simply encouragement. I want to give parents the confidence to know that they can do it—not only that they're capable of teaching high school, but that they're actually the very best choice as teachers of their teens.
So even though the book has a lot of practical tips and suggestions—the purpose of all of these is to make the parents' job easier by answering questions like what to teach and how much—but I think that when parents take the time to stop and think about it, they have some clear goals for their children's education. And so my purpose is to help parents follow their own vision for their family so they can meet their own goals in homeschooling.
Mike:
Thank you, Mary. And please join us tomorrow when we'll talk about some of the differences between teaching a junior high student and a senior high student. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
