Homeschoolers are not retreating from society, as some critics maintain, but are the leading edge in advancing excellence in American education.

In a recent study, homeschool graduates in the 18-24 age group voted at a rate of 76%, compared with 29% for the general population. That's not retreating from society, but a demonstration of a group of people committed to participating in our democratic form of government.

Why does homeschooling produce children who are civically engaged, as well as being concerned about the spiritual welfare of their neighbors?

One of the keys is the teaching of a biblical worldview. The homeschool environment is uniquely suited to this task since it provides breathing room for a child to grow and explore the deep truths of Scripture.

The one-on-one tutorial method of education allows children to pursue their own interests and learn without distraction.

In most homeschool families, children acquire a love of learning and develop a sense of responsibility to serve other people.

Serving is a way of life, and a Christian child can contribute the most to society by being light in the darkness.

Having a goal of being salt and light in the world is the opposite of retreating from society. Therefore, most homeschoolers would disagree with the criticism that we are retreating from society.
