Mike Farris:
Today I have a very special guest with me, my daughter Jayme Metzgar. Jayme, since the time you were very small, you've had an interest in missions. Talk about how God led you to step out in faith in this area.
Jayme Metzgar:
Well, that's right, I've been interested from a very young age. But as I got older my interest began to fade a little bit until I was age 17 and I was going through some hard times in my life, and really that was the period in my life when I began walking with the Lord in a personal way for the first time. And it was really that love relationship with God that rekindled my interest in missions. You introduced me to a Romanian pastor, Paul Negrut, who invited me to his country, and I went there for the first time at age 18 on a short-term trip.
Mike:
Now, eventually you returned to Romania for a full year of service. Tell the story of how God led you there.
Jayme:
Well, God has consistently just led me one step at a time. As I'm faithful to do the thing that's right in front of me, he leads me to the next step. And as I was in Romania on my first trip there, I met a young Romanian Christian woman who had just recently opened up an orphanage. And I began volunteering there every day and just absolutely fell in love with the work there. It was so satisfying to work with these abandoned babies who would be otherwise dying in state institutions. And God used that experience to draw me back to Romania, and I did return for a full year at age 19.
Mike:
Tomorrow we'll talk with Jayme about how God took that initial vision into an exciting and new direction. I'm Mike Farris.
