Mike Smith:
Homeschooling is the safest environment for children. But if you listen to the mainstream media you will find that a new line of attack on homeschooling has been developed. Homeschooling is alleged to be linked with child abuse.
CBS and the New York Times have taken the lead in this attack, but the stories have failed to mention that most child abuse occurs in households where partners cohabit and with children who attend public school.
Since these media outlets did not attempt to expand their inquiry into the prevalence of child abuse occurring in homes with non-traditional families, nor explore the abuses which occur in public school, it is fair to conclude that they were not interested in presenting a fair and balanced report on homeschooling.
Homeschool families are typically composed of married households and consequently are at low risk for child abuse.
Homeschool parents have dedicated their lives to their children and achieved outstanding levels of success using their own resources.
Homeschoolers should take heart because this criticism smacks of desperationa last gasp before homeschooling becomes fully accepted into the mainstream of American education. The critics have tried and failed many times before and the truth has eventually won outeven if it has taken time to be fully realized.
Trust God and live your life in accordance with his Word and we will continue to win victories for homeschooling.
And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
