What's your vision for the relationships in your family? Tune in as Michael Farris talks with Zan Tyler about nurturing close relationships on today's Home School Heartbeat.

Mike Farris:
Zan, I know that you write encouraging articles for homeschool parents on lifeway.com\homeschool. In one of your recent articles, you talked about how God created our homes to be places of communion and intimacy. What do you mean by that?


Zan Tyler:
You know, Mike, I think in our society today, we view home as a stopping-off place where you go to change clothes to get on to the next activity. But I think God created our homes to mirror the Trinity, and there is great unity, great fellowship, and great communion that takes place between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And so as a family, we are to mirror that to the watching world.


I think what we do is that we learn to demonstrate love with our children. So if we have aging parents to take care of, we involve our children in that. And by doing that, we're teaching them what it means to obey the fifth commandment. When we go to church, we worship together. We have a desire for outreach in the community; we evangelize together.


And to me, that's the beauty of homeschooling. We can teach our children how to love and interact with the world as we are doing it.
