Is President George W. Bush a man of faith and a friend to homeschoolers? Join Michael Farris as he shares his conversation with President Bush prior to the signing of the partial birth abortion ban today on Home School Heartbeat.
Mike Farris:
As we were getting ready to leave in the motorcade to go over to the bill signing, the president took me aside and told me a story about a homeschooling family he'd met the day before. He'd been in Los Angeles viewing the victims of the fires in the canyons and the various parts of southern California that had been so devastated by these natural disasters. The third house he came to that day, he noticed that there were three little desks in a row in the burned-out shell of the home. He immediately understood: this is a homeschooling family. He began to talk to the parents about their experience and about the fire and all that they'd gone through as homeschoolers. The dad said to the president, "Mr. President, you don't have to worry about us, because we're in God's hands."
I could tell by the way the president told this story and the look on his face that that really touched the heart of the president of the United States, for a man to share that encouraging statement of faith under such difficult circumstances. And then he turned to me and said, "Michael, that's one of your flock."
One of the things we know for sure is this president understands homeschoolers and is our friend. More importantly, he understands our God, and he is his friend as well. I'm Mike Farris.
