What will the economy look like when your homeschooler graduates? This week on Home School Heartbeat, Mike Smith talks about increasing your student's career options by instilling in him an entrepreneurial spirit. Mike Smith: A study in entrepreneurship need not be a moneymaking venture in order to be a successful experiment for your child. Giving him a chance to analyze a business situation and being responsible for the outcome will go a long way to prepare him for adulthood. Teaching entrepreneurial skills to children is not a new phenomenon; kids have been setting up lemonade stands and delivering newspapers across America for decades. From that experiment, many of these lemonade stand owners and paperboys or girls realize that it's a tough way to make a living in the long term, so they find another type of employment. But they have had a good lesson in the value of money, studying consumer habits, and how to deal with the success or failure of working in the real world. We will continue discussing the benefits of entrepreneurship in your homeschool curriculum for the rest of the week. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
