Have you ever wondered if parents in other countries enjoy the freedom to homeschool? HSLDA President Mike Smith discusses this on today's Home School Heartbeat. Mike Smith: Homeschooling took off in Canada almost as soon as it did in America. Then, other Western nations, such as England, Australia, and South Africa, caught the bug. It started with a few inquiries from homeschoolers who were moving out of the United States. As time went on we began to get requests for help from other countries. In places where homeschooling was illegal, parents wanted more educational freedom. How did this happen? Undoubtedly, American missionaries and military families who homeschool and travel around the world have introduced many to the idea of homeschooling. Yet the advent of the Internet seems to have greatly increased worldwide interest in home education as well. In recent years, the homeschooling information available to families overseas has exploded. It is exciting for us at HSLDA to have the opportunity to help parents around the world. Joining me this week to discuss international homeschooling will be HSLDA's Director of International Relations, Chris Klicka. We will talk about how education freedom is now spreading around the world, and what homeschoolers in the United States can do to help homeschoolers in other nations. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith. For more information about the global growth of homeschooling, call us and ask for Homeschooling Around the World. The number is toll-free: 866-338-8614.
