Is the principle of self-government being threatened by our courts? Michael Farris follows a disturbing pattern today on Home School Heartbeat. Mike Farris: Let's take a very recent decision of the Supreme Court as yet another illustration of this misuse of judicial power. In June, the Supreme Court issued an opinion in the case of Lawrence v. Texas. This case concerned the right of elected representatives of Texas to make a law banning the practice of homosexual acts. In a republic, the way laws are supposed to be changed is through elections and legislation that follows. Many states have done just that with regard to homosexuality. Many other states have stood by their original laws, which have protected traditional views of decency. In Lawrence, the Supreme Court took this debate away from democracy. The voters and their elected representatives can no longer decide the issue by votes. An edict has been issued. The matter is closed. The Court has spoken. When anyone other than an elected legislative body attempts to impose its will on a nation, that's called tyranny. The tyrants are in control of our nation and they are dressed in black robes. As bad as this decision was on the issue of homosexuality, it has far greater implications that we're going to discuss tomorrow on Home School Heartbeat. I'm Mike Farris.
