Does that housework keep piling up on you? How can moms see that their kids are educated and at the same time complete the rest of the day's tasks? Author and homeschool mom, Christine Field, shares her advice with Mike Smith on today's Home School Heartbeat.

    Mike:

Christine, what practical time-saving tips do you have for moms?

    Christine:

One of the biggest areas in our home is meal planning and preparation. If you think about how many meals a year the average mom is called to upon to produce, you know multiply 3 by 365. It's a tremendous number. So you've got to do some meal planning, and you've got to do some shopping planning. You can also do other time saving things like cooking in multiples. Never make one of anything ever again; or cooking by protein types. And also as a homeschooler, my favorite things in the whole wide world have been my bread machine and my crockpot.

    Mike:

Well, Christine do you think it's important to enlist the help of children around the house?

    Christine:

I feel so strongly about this. I think the home and chores and learning responsibility in the home is an important aspect of our life curriculum. It's not our school curriculum. I wonder how many power struggles we can help our sons and daughters avoid in future relationships if we teach them to love and serve one another at home? And it starts when they're young, as young children teaching them small chores around the house, and as they grow and their abilities grow, teaching them to take more and more responsibility for their lives.

    Mike:

Well, Christine, thank you so much for sharing your insights with us this week. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
