I know I want to homeschool now, but will I have the endurance to go the distance? Listen to veteran homeschooler Vickie Farris as she and her husband Chairman Michael Farris talk about what's kept her going, today on Home School Heartbeat. Mike Farris: Vickie, a mother of six wrote this question for you: "I am losing my mind trying to homeschool, plan lessons, make menus, clip coupons, spend time with my husband, etc., etc., etc. How have you done it all these years?" Vickie: That's a big question, and actually, one of our daughters, Jamie, and I wrote a book called A Mom Just Like You that answers that question. But, the key thing I think over the years that's kept me going is just trying to keep my relationship with the Lord as a first priority. Now, I haven't done that perfectly in any sense, but truly, literally, clung to his promises, and I've tried to claim them for myself and claim them for our homeschooling. Things like "Be ye not weary in well doing, for in due season you shall reap if you faint not." Galatians 6:9, and "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength," Isaiah 40:31. I've done a lot of praying for my kids, for our marriage, for our homeschooling. If it weren't for the Lord and my relationship with him and the daily strength and wisdom and encouragement that he gives me, I would have quit a long time ago. Mike Farris: Vickie, thanks so much. I know that's a real encouragement. I'm Mike Farris. If you'd like to hear more from Vickie Farris, we'd encourage you to get a copy of her book, A Mom Just Like You. We'd be happy to send that to you for a minimum donation of just $10.00. Call us toll-free at 866-338-8614. That's 866-338-8614. |
