An Older Son’s Advice to Parents

How have homeschool parents of teenage boys fared as their sons navigate the waters of adolescence? Hear one young man's answer as he talks with Chairman Michael Farris today on Home School Heartbeat.

Mike Farris:


Recently, I had Paul Wilson, who's the Patrick Henry College Dean of Students, ask five of our young male students if they could come on the program so I could ask them what their homeschooling moms did right. My guest today is Torrey Moe, a Patrick Henry College sophomore. Welcome, Torrey.


Torrey:


Thanks, Dr. Farris, I'm glad to be here.


Mike Farris:


Torrey, how would you say homeschooling prepared you for college, and what is your vision for the future?


Torrey:


Through homeschooling, I believe I was given a desire to strive on for more than just man's standard. That's nothing compared to God. So I was inspired through my parents, through their example to aim higher, to strive for more than what man would have as far as scholastics. I think I did well in school, but not necessarily in all the areas that man desires us to do well. And then coming here to Patrick Henry, I've been challenged in the areas that I may not have received the best education in the world's standards. But I received an education that I am pleased to thank my parents for, and am honored to have had. And I think it did prepare me to come to Patrick Henry College, to come to a higher scholastic level, and I was able to make up for the areas that I was deficient and excel in the areas, even more, that my parents educated me in.
