Homeschooling is now growing in some of the unlikeliest places. Christopher Klicka joins Mike Smith this week to talk about homeschooling around the world on Home School Heartbeat.

Mike Smith:


Chris, you have homeschooling friends in Hungary, Romania, and the Czech Republic. Can you tell us today what's going on with homeschooling in Eastern Europe?


Chris:


Yes, homeschooling is growing by leaps and bounds. In Hungary, they've established a homeschool association after consulting with us, and they've had their second homeschool seminar already.


In Romania, it's not legal to homeschool, so they've been consulting with us as to how to make it legal. The fledgling homeschool association that has just started contacted the Vice Chairman of the Department of Education, and he is very sympathetic to helping legalize homeschooling in Romania. We've been able to obtain resolutions from our US Congress recognizing homeschooling which this Vice Chairman is using to help convince other members of the Parliament to vote for an upcoming bill to legalize it.


In the Czech Republic, we've been able to help them through a massive email alert that we sent out that generated over 2000 calls to the Czech Parliament and shut down the Parliament for a day, and as a result it stopped a bill that would have essentially outlawed homeschooling for most homeschoolers in the Czech Republic. So homeschooling continues to grow there as well as throughout Eastern Europe.
