Homeschooling is rapidly expanding worldwide as families abroad search for options to guide their children's education. This week on Home School Heartbeat, Mike Smith talks with HSLDA's Director of International Relations, Christopher Klicka, about homeschooling around the world. Mike Smith: Thank you for joining us this week, Chris. Why do you think homeschooling seems to be exploding around the world? Chris: Well, I see that the same problems that we have in the United States are the same type of problems that we have around the world. A lot of families are becoming disgruntled with their public education system. They're looking for alternatives. They're looking for ways to provide their child the best education in a secure environment, and many of the families want to make sure that their children get good moral training. As a result, they're looking to homeschooling as the way out. Mike Smith: So, do these homeschoolers around the world look to the US for this example? Chris: Yes, because many times, they don't even have the right to homeschool. And they hear about homeschooling on the Internet, they read books, but then they look at their own country's laws and they're not allowed to do so. So they look to the United States for answers--for help, legally, to see how we were able to win the right to homeschool. And they're looking to America for curriculum ideas and existing curriculum so that they don't have to reinvent the wheel and will have a good text that they can translate and use for their homeschool. Would you like more information on helping homeschooling around the world? Then we'd like to send you a memo called, "Helping Homeschooling Around the World."
