Beginning to teach your children at home can be an intimidating step. But there is help available, often just around the corner in the form of a local support group. Join us today on Home School Heartbeat as Michael Farris, explains how support groups work. Mike: One of the greatest resources available to help new homeschooling families is the homeschooling support group. Support groups as the name suggests provide an opportunity for people of like purpose together for encouragement and fellowship. Many support groups organize activities for parents and children. Like: field trips, park days, community service projects and special holiday events. Some support groups even have annual project fairs where children can display their school projects in science or perhaps in history. These activities are a wonderful supplement to your teaching program and they provide children the opportunity to socialize with one another. And not only children, mothers get a much needed time of encouragement by being with other homeschooling moms. In addition support groups often sponsor special speakers, hold curriculum fairs and produce newsletters full of homeschooling news and teaching tips. If you're planning to homeschool or if you're already homeschooling and aren't involved in a support group consider joining one. Not only will you receive encouragement but you'll have an opportunity to encourage others as well. If you don't know of a support group in your area, call us. We'll be happy to put you in touch with a statewide group which in turn can direct you to a support group in your local area. I'm Michael Farris. Want to begin homeschooling your children this year?
