Like farmers waiting for a harvest, homeschooling moms plant educational seeds and wait. President Mike Smith talks with today's guest about the rewards of perseverance on this edition of Home School Heartbeat. Mike: Zan, your two sons are now 24 and 22, and you still have a 15-year-old daughter at home. By persevering through the ups and downs of homeschooling, you now come to the harvest! What have been the biggest rewards of your commitment to go the distance? Zan: I think the biggest reward I've seen is the deep spirituality of both of my older sons. We really focused on our homeschooling and developing a servant's heart in them toward God and toward other people. And I see them now as young men really desiring to serve God and employ their God-given talents really in service of God's kingdom here on earth. Mike: What are your sons doing now, Zan? Zan: Tye's a senior at U.S.C. Sumpter where he's serving as president of his student body and he's also serving part-time as youth director at a small church. And John is a senior at U.S.C. Columbia where he's a chemistry and business major. He wants to go into oral surgery, and he is serving as the legislative assistant to the chairman of the senate education committee while he's in school. And has done some research for a conservative think tank here. Mike: Congratulations, Zan, on a job well done. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith. Can you homeschool your children? That and other questions are answered in a great resource called Home Schooling: Start Here. It's available to you absolutely free when you contact us here at the Home School Legal Defense Association. Check us out online at homeschoolheartbeat.com. That's homeschoolheartbeat.com. |
