Balance: the key to sanity

Life gets extremely busy and chaotic at times no matter who you are. For homeschooling moms, it often seems that there's never enough time in the day to get everything done. Join us this week as author and homeschool mom, Christine Field, shares her advice with Home School Heartbeat's Mike Smith.

    Mike:

Christine, in your book, Help for the Harried Homeschooler, you make the case that balance is the key to homeschool sanity. Tell us what kind of balance you're referring to and give us some practical examples to help busy homeschoolers achieve balance in their lives.

    Christine:

Sometimes moms feel like they don't know if they should be mom first or teacher first. And what we have found in finding a balance in our homeschool is to figure out that the education part of homeschooling just fits so beautifully in with the living part of life. That we can mentor our children into maturity and teach them and homeschool them just simply by living together as a family, so we can approach all that we have to do in our dual roles as mom and teacher as the most natural thing in the world. So make education the focus of your family life. Make your home a place for living and loving and learning, and then there won't be that much conflict in the roles that you play. And you will find some kind of balance. We can read to our children while we fold the laundry. We can have some of our best conversations about physics in the kitchen.

    Mike:

Well, thank you, Christine. And until next time, I'm Mike Smith.
