Do you know of a widow who wants to home school her children? Today on Home School Heartbeat, President Michael Smith, talks with Chuck Hurst about the Home School Foundation's Widows Curriculum Scholarship Fund. Michael Smith: Chuck, a number of home school families that have been hit with tragic circumstances, have been blessed by this fund. Can you tell us about it? Chuck Hurst: Sure. The Widows Curriculum Scholarship Fund is a great story. Like so many stories it has a sad beginning. Often it begins with children who are fatherless, a mother reeling. Mary didn't expect to lose her husband while she was so young. They were supposed to watch their girls grow and one day enjoy their grandchildren together. But this dream came crashing down when her husband unexpectedly passed away. She'd long since committed herself to home schooling her daughters but was it going to be possible now? Well we're glad to report that it was possible for Mary and for many others. In 1999 through the generosity of a home schooling father we were able to set up a fund to help buy school materials for home schooling widows. The resulting Widows Curriculum Scholarship Fund has encouraged so many families and its been used to help many moms such as Mary to honor their commitments. Now God makes it clear his heart is drawn to the needs of the widow. Perhaps that's why so many others have wanted to become involved in this fund. Together we helped to write a happier ending to their story. If you'd like more information on the Widow's Curriculum Scholarship fund, we have an informative brochure that can answer many of your questions - whether you need help, or would like to help someone else.
