Most home school parents can remember how the end of their high school education was marked with a graduation ceremony. Well more and more home school groups are creating that kind of experience for their students. Lisa Mikitarian joins Michael Smith to talk about home school graduations on today's Home School Heartbeat. Michael Smith: Lisa, our students are certainly worth honoring in a special way as they complete their high school work. Please tell our listeners why your group has this ceremony and some of the things you've done to make it memorable. Lisa Mikitarian: Sure. Mike, we have this ceremony in order to honor both the students and the parents for their 12 years of hard work. We feel that it's just too important to let it pass without having some kind of ceremony to commemorate that. Commencement actually means beginning and for these students it is a beginning. It's a time of transition for them. And to make the evening specially memorable we have picture boards of the students as they have gone through the years. The moms put these together and they tell me that it is a bittersweet sort of therapy for them to put these boards together. The highlight of the evening is definitely the families getting up and speaking to the audience about some aspect of home schooling that has touched them in particular. Michael Smith: Lisa, thank you for sharing with us about this great idea. I know other home school groups around the country are doing the same thing, and that many others will draw some great ideas from this. How can the Home School Legal Defense Association help you?
