Do you want to home school but also want your kids to participate in athletics? The fact is, sports activities for home schoolers are increasing by leaps and bounds. Today on Home School Heartbeat, Michael Smith discusses some of the great things going on with home schoolers in the sporting world. Michael Smith: In the last 10 to 15 years, we've seen a huge rise in the number of home schooling organizations offering athletic programs for their students. This ranges from intramural-type programs to competitive teams that face other home school groups or other schools, all the way to national championship events in some cases. New Creation Center, a home school group near Macon, Georgia, is just one example. Their basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball teams play against public and private schools in Georgia. New Creation Center's coach Rocky Davis took the basketball team to a state championship for Christian schools and the team has participated in basketball tournaments in a number of other states as well. There are hundreds of stories like this all over the country. The important thing to remember is that these teams were started just through the initiative of parents who wanted to enhance the educational experience of their children. You as a parent can do the same thing in any number of areas. It just takes creativity and persistence. So remember, home schooling in no way means your children can't compete in sports at whatever level you like.
