Today on Home School Heartbeat, Michael Smith, talks with home school choir director Sue Vanderwater. Sue's insights should prove quite interesting for home school families and groups that want to develop music-related opportunities for their students. Michael Smith: Sue, there's so much potential out there for the home school community and music. Please tell our listeners about some of the things your group has been able to do, and what kind of experience it has been for the home school students involved. Sue Vanderwater: For the last six years we have started a choir for the home schoolersa middle school and a high school choir. Today we have 85 voices in the high school choir and 27 in middle school. We teach them to read music off the printed page. Each and every year we start there. And then to do performance. We have two performances a year and we take the high school choir on tour. Long term we feel like they learn life skills such as speaking skills, performance skills and interaction between each other. And we are very encouraged with their progress there. Michael Smith: Well thank you, Sue! Listeners, I hope you've enjoyed hearing about some of the great things going on with music and home schoolers. Remember that the opportunities for your home school group are unbounded. Please join us tomorrow as we talk about some more of the great things going on with our home school groups around the country. Want to begin home schooling your children this year?
