It’s Good to be Challenged—Part III
Fundamentals

With so many of today’s marriages ending in divorce, it’s rare to find a couple that has a strong, faithful union. Home School Legal Defense Association president, Mike Farris, challenges home schooling parents to remain faithful to each other, today on Home School Heartbeat.

    Mike:
It’s good to be challenged to remember the fundamentals, and one fundamental needed for every home schooling family is a healthy marriage. Why is this important for home schooling parents to remember? Because at Home School Legal Defense we receive more than one phone call every day telling us about another home schooling family getting a divorce. While our numbers are still much better than the world around us, I don’t know that we’re doing any better than the church around us on the divorce statistics. We need to remember the fundamentals.

God says in Malachi 2, verses 13 and 14, “Another thing you do: You flood the Lord’s altar with tears. You weep and wail because He no longer pays attention to your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands. You ask, ‘Why?’ It is because the Lord is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.”

If God removes His hand of blessing from home schooling families, I believe it will be because of unfaithful husbands and wives who break their marriage covenant. When our marriages break up, our movement will break up. If our marriages stay strong in the Lord and we remain faithful, then our movement will stay strong in the Lord and He will remain faithful to us. I’m Michael Farris.
