As the holidays approach, it’s the perfect time to think about ways to reach out to needy families. Would you like to bless a single parent who is homeschooling his or her children? Stay tuned for ideas, on today’s Home School Heartbeat with Mike Smith and Tracy Klicka MacKillop.

Mike Smith:
Many homeschool single parents struggle financially, especially in the holiday season. Tracy, can you share how the Home School Foundation helps widows and other single parents at Christmas?

Tracy Klicka MacKillop:
Mike, most families love Christmas. I kno w it’s one of our favorite times of the year. Severely limited resources, however, can make it hard for families to celebrate. At HSF, we have a special heart for our widows and single parents, who not only have significant financial needs, but can be tempted to feel particularly alone during the Christmas season. Every year, to reach out to these families, the staff of HSLDA and the Home School Foundation gather together to write personal Christmas cards with messages of love and support. These heartfelt notes from our staff, along with a small financial gift—our Christmas present—go a long way to encourage these dear families. In addition, we invite our listeners to get directly involved in caring for our widows and single-parent families by sponsoring the gift of a fresh wreath or our very own Family Favorites from the Homeschool Kitchen cookbook. They can do this by visiting our website, homeschoolfoundation.org.

Mike:
Well, Tracy, I know our moms especially appreciate this act of love, and I hope the Foundation can continue to bless single parents in this way. Until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
