If you’re homeschooling a special needs or struggling learner, it’s essential to have encouragement for your journey! Today on Home School Heartbeat with host Mike Smith, HSLDA Special Needs Consultant Krisa Winn shares her heart with homeschooling parents. Mike Smith: Krisa, do you have any words of encouragement for homeschooling parents of special needs children who might be listening today? Krisa Winn: Yes, I do. First of all, you are doing a great job. So many of the moms I talk to are teaching with such diligence. They have really researched curriculum options, therapy options, and their child’s specific learning needs. They’re an inspiration to me. I think sometimes they’re harder on themselves than they should be, and that leads me to my next point, which is give yourself some grace. Often, parents of special needs children are not only parent and teacher, but caregiver as well, and that’s not an easy job. So it’s important to take time to balance the busyness of each day with plenty of rest and respite. And finally, know that what God started in you, He will complete. The Bible says He’s the author and finisher of our faith. On the good days, thank Him, and on the rough days, look for Him and thank Him. Of course, our team is here to support you on those rough days too, but God is the ultimate special needs consultant. Mike: Krisa, that’s really a helpful message to our listeners! I really appreciate that. And thanks for joining us this week and for your work to help parents homeschool struggling learners! Until next time, I’m Mike Smith. |
