The job of an HSLDA educational consultant goes far beyond just answering questions about curriculum or learning disabilities. Today on Home School Heartbeat, HSLDA’s newest special needs consultant Krisa Winn joins host Mike Smith with a story. Mike Smith: Krisa, we’re excited to have you on the team here at HSLDA. Do you have any stories from the short time you’ve been here that are especially memorable to you? Krisa Winn: There have been so many times over the past six months where something that I had just read or learned about was exactly what a member needed to have for that particular day. When I can provide a timely word or resource, I know it helps them to realize that God is walking alongside them in this journey and that they’re not alone. Along those same lines, recently I was talking to one of our members and something she said reminded me of another family I had worked with weeks earlier. In fact, their circumstances were strikingly similar. At the end of our conversation, this mom mentioned how nice it would be to connect with someone who could understand what she was going through. I told her that I thought I had someone in mind that just might fit that bill. So after our phone call, I emailed the other mom and asked if she would be willing to connect. After a few days, I heard back and the answer was yes. Shortly thereafter, both of these ladies wrote me and expressed how grateful they were to have found each other. Mike: Krisa, this is an incredible story to encourage our members. It’s so important for homeschooling parents to know that they are not alone in the battle! And thanks for sharing that with us today. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith. |
