HSLDA Special Needs Consultant Krisa Winn is not just an experienced teacher—she’s also a mom! Krisa talks about the unexpected turns of her personal story, today on Home School Heartbeat with host Mike Smith. Mike Smith: Krisa, last time you explained how, after 20 years of teaching in a classroom, you wanted to come home to be with your children. Well, tell us about your family! Krisa Winn: Our family is a picture of God’s grace and faithfulness. For many years, we struggled with infertility. We wanted to adopt, but those plans were repeatedly stopped by one disaster after another. To say that that time in our lives “challenging” is an understatement. We determined though to put our hope and faith in God and to trusted Him to build our family. Finally, after 21 years of marriage, we learned about embryo adoption. And we began the process, and at the age of 42, I gave birth to my first child, Grace Elisabeth. Three years later, we had our second embryo transfer and were blessed with the birth of another girl, Karis Joy. This past October, I took a huge step of faith and quit my job so that I could stay at home with our girls. My husband said, “You’ve been teaching everybody else’s children; now it’s time to teach our own.” I haven’t looked back. I say that my days are filled with moments of ordinary wonderful stuff, and I’m so grateful for what God has done for us. Mike: Well, Krisa, thanks for sharing that wonderful story of God’s blessing in your family! And thanks for joining us again today! Until next time, I’m Mike Smith. |
