Today, I’m pleased to be joined by Dr. Jeff Myers, president of Passing the Baton International and author of the book Handoff: The Only Way to Win the Race of Life. Jeff, thanks so much for being on the program.
Dr. Jeff Myers:
Good to be with you, Mike.
Jeff, the title of your book is a big tease, so why don’t you give our audience a quick rundown: What is the only way to win the race of life?
Sure. Mike, if folks will come to the passingthebaton.org website they’ll be able to see the cover of the book, which makes the analogy crystal clear. But the handoff is the part of a relay race in which a runner hands the baton to the next runner. Now, I’m convinced that the race of life is a relay race, and that the only way to win the race of life is to pass that baton of godly faithfulness to the next generation.
So, if the race of life continues long after we’re gone, the question really is, what are we doing to leave behind a generation that is far better able to lead in a godly and wise fashion than our own generation? The old saying is, “There is no success without succession,” so I wrote Handoff really to be clarion call to this generation to embrace this cause with enthusiasm…and I think it’s easier than we think it is, which is probably what we’ll talk about on the next program.
Jeff, these are really interesting ideas. I look forward to digging deeper with you tomorrow. I’m Mike Farris.
