Homeschoolers know that learning happens everywhere! Homeschooling dad Kevin Swanson took that truth to heart and decided to start teaching his son at work. Find out what that looked like on today’s Home School Heartbeat with your host Mike Smith.

“Your Turn, Dad” @home e-vent package

In this package, six different dads from different stages in life chime in with their lessons on fatherhood. In these encouraging webinars, they cover everything from having a “presence in your absence” to being a dad who is “fully there”—how to engage your children, teach them, and help your wife from shouldering all the burden of both home and school. Want to get some tips on managing work and family? Find encouragement in raising up godly children? You’ll find it all here.

Mike Smith:
We’re joined this week by homeschooling dad and director of Generations with a Vision, Kevin Swanson. Kevin, great to have you with us today!

Kevin Swanson:
It’s great to be with you, Mike!

Mike:
Kevin, would you please tell us what change you made to your son’s homeschooling when he turned 11?

Kevin:
Well, you know, Mike, I was involved in corporate management as executive director of a nonprofit organization for years and years. My son, it was evident, he was being homeschooled by his mother, but he really needed his dad and, I think every son needs his father. But in this case, my son was surrounded by four sisters and a mom, and his mom was feeling a little of that resistance and she was having a hard time!

And I just felt God was calling me. He was pointing to me saying, “You’re the man! Get involved, and bring your son into your life.” And so that’s what happened; I brought my son into my life. I began to homeschool him, and he worked with me for years and years, just integrating him into my life, and it’s been a huge blessing over all this time.

Mike:
Kevin, that’s an inspiring story! I really appreciate that. So, I want our listeners to join us next time to hear how this shaped Kevin’s relationship with his son. Until then, I’m Mike Smith.
