Peter Kamakawiwoole was a national moot court champion as an undergrad. He just graduated from law school. His next career move? Home School Legal Defense Association. He joins host Mike Farris to explain why, today on Home School Heartbeat.

Mike Farris:
Peter, who is my guest this week, recently graduated from law school at Saint Louis University. Many new lawyers would look for the biggest, most prestigious firm that they could get hired by. Peter, why did you decide to focus your work on homeschooling freedom at this point in your career?

Peter Kamakawiwoole:
Well, I knew even before I went to law school that I didn&rsuqo;t want to work 60, 70, 80 or more hours a week, which is pretty much standard fare at big law firms for young and green lawyers. Now, even more so, as a parent I realize that this time is precious; my oldest son is already almost a year and a half. Hes ’walking, he’s talking, he’s carrying bottles and diapers and clothes for our upcoming twins. So, I really realize that I wanted to have the time to invest in my family and also to help other people in that same goal.

So, when I came to HSLDA, it really, literally was a match made in heaven because here, I get to work to support families so that they can grow and become all that God wants them to be, which is exactly what I want for my own family. As a parent, I realize how important it is to invest in the lives of my children, so I can’t imagine a better thing to be doing at work than to be helping other parents to do the exact same thing.

Mike Farris:
Thanks, Peter. You’re a great addition to the HSLDA legal team, and we’re glad to have you. I’m Mike Farris.
