Americans live as a self-governing citizenry. But in the near future, this may no longer be the case. Find out why—and what you can do about it—from host Mike Farris on today’s Home School Heartbeat! Constitutional Literacy with Michael Farris![]() If we’re going to be a free people, we’ve got to remain true to the Constitution. Mike Farris teaches the constitutional history and legal theory that are essential to American self-government in a DVD series, Constitutional Literacy with Michael Farris. Help preserve liberty and get Constitutionally literate. Follow the link to learn more or order. Mike Farris: However, we must be aware that there’s a growing threat to our principle of self-government. And that is the use of international law to govern the domestic policy of the United States. Now I want to make clear that there is a valid place for treaties: treaties for peace, treaties for trade, treaties concerning piracy on the high seas. When the subject matter of treaties is how nations treat nations, that is a legitimate subject for treaties that our Founding Fathers would have recognized and approved. But since World War II, there’s been a growing class of a new kind of treaty—treaties like the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child that concern themselves exclusively with how nations treat their own citizens. Because of treaties like this, we must know our constitutional rights and be ready to defend them. It is absolutely improper to allow unelected, international officials to control the domestic policy of the United States. The right of American families is at stake, and the principle of American self-government is also at risk. I’m Mike Farris. |
