Very few people today have an appropriate knowledge of the Constitution, including our elected officials. There are three elements to becoming truly constitutionally literate: First, find out what the Constitution actually says. Second, explore what the Founding Fathers meant by those words in the Constitution. And third, we need to look at Supreme Court rulings and precedents and compare what the Supreme Court has said to what the Founding Fathers have said. Even though the Supreme Court is not always faithful to the Constitution, its cases create precedents. A thorough study of these precedents must be done if you want to understand how our nation has gotten so far away from the original meaning of the Constitution. And knowing this can help us get it back on track. I’m Mike Farris. |
