Mike Smith:
This week, Zan Tyler has joined me to talk about walking in the light of God’s word. Zan, you’ve talked a lot about how the Bible is really applicable to our daily lives. Can you share with our listeners a specific example of this from your own life?

Zan Tyler:
Well Mike, there are two favorite verses I had that took me through my 21 years of homeschooling. The first that I’ll read is Hebrews 11:8: “By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance, and he went out, not know where he was going.”

And I can’t tell you how many times this verse comforted for me, because when we started homeschooling in the early eighties, there was no help, and I really felt like I spent a lot of my life going and I knew not where. And so Abraham’s faith really encouraged me.

And the second verse that really encouraged me was a companion verse in Hebrews 11: “By faith, Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household.” And you know, that’s what we’re doing, plank by plank, we’re preparing an ark for the salvation of our household as well.

Mike:
Zan, that is truly encouraging! Thanks for joining us this week! And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.

The Word of God is living, active, and powerful. But how can it really help me deal with the overwhelming responsibilities and demands in my life? God’s Word gives instruction, direction, clarity, and discernment. I’m really struggling with homeschooling, curriculum, and family issues. Does the Bible get that specific? Zan reminds us that God’s Word provides hope, encouragement, motivation, and comfort, and shows us how to draw these things out of Scripture.
