Six homeschool students face a well-manned team from the Bronx School of Sciences, one of the top high schools in the country, in a mock trial tournament before a federal Magistrate judge. How did this small team from Schenectady, NY, topple the giant? Find out today on Home School Heartbeat with host Mike Farris.
Mike Farris:
Today we have with us homeschool student and Loving Education At Home mock trial team member Rebecca Cambron. We are really glad to have you on the program, Rebecca!
Rebecca Cambron:
Well, thank you for having me!
Mike
Rebecca, your team was labeled the “underdogs”—I mean, you’re going against one of the best high schools in America. How’d you put that fact aside and find the strength to beat this team?
Rebecca:
Well, we did a lot of praying that week. But with God’s help, plus the many, many hours we had spent individually memorizing parts since there were so few of us on the team, and then poring over the case again and again, not to mention the intense practices we had twice a week, we felt ready to do our best and leave it out—leaving it all on the courtroom floor.
Additionally, we knew that just the act of making it to the finals as a homeschool team was an accomplishment above and beyond anything we ourselves or anyone else had expected us to be capable of. That confidence left us free to give the final outcome of the trial over to the Lord.

Rebecca, what a great witness; what a great accomplishment. You’ve showed us the value of working for a goal beyond your expectations. I’m Mike Farris.
